Trees For the Future

As part of our commitment to sustainability, we are really excited to partner with Trees for the Future - a nonprofit organization whose mission is to restore the environment, and end poverty and hunger by training farmers in regenerative agriculture. Since 1989, they have planted more than 344 million trees in more than 50 countries around the world, in Haiti, Latin America, South America, Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia.

Their Forest Garden Approach (FGA)

Through their 4-year FGA training program, farmers plant thousands of trees that protect the land and bring nutrients back to the soil. Farmers are taught to plant trees in a way that optimizes land use, eliminates the need for chemical pesticides and fertilizers, and reserves water and sequesters carbon. On average, a Forest Garden offsets 144.64 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per acre over 20 years.

Environmental and Socio-economic Impact

By planting trees and diverse food crops on previously degraded land, Trees for the Future projects not only improve biodiversity and restore ecosystems, but they also provide developing communities with access to nutrient-rich crops year round to feed their families and sell on the market to increase their income.

By providing hands-on agroforestry training and resources to farming communities (whereby farmer groups are required to comprise at least 30% women - usually a lot more), these programs empower women and give families the resources and knowledge they need to break out of generational poverty.

This focus on agroforestry and thoughtful land management, improves the environment and prevents future unsustainable land use practices.

Your Contribution

Foss and Harper pledges 5% of our proceeds to Trees For the Future. These donations fund tree planting, seeds, training, and tools to grow Forest Gardens in developing communities. Each Forest Garden has, on average, thousands of trees, and dozens of varieties of fruits and vegetables.

When you purchase a Foss & Harper piece, you're helping Trees for the Future restore landscapes in developing communities, breaking the cycle of hunger, poverty, and environmental destruction by serving the people at the heart of our global food systems: farmers and their families.
